Back in the day, if dentists and orthodontists wanted a comprehensive 3D model of your teeth, you had to open very, very wide. The procedure involved filling mouth-sized trays with goopy, plasticky cement which would slide into your mouth and then remain for several minutes as the mold was set. With luck, the goop didn’t creep further backward. Removing them was no particular joy either.
How times have changed — at least at Kitsilano Smiles, where our Dental Wellness Scan is the new standard. Using the industry-leading iTero scanner, we create a highly detailed 3D image of a patient’s teeth — no goop required. Within as little as 60 seconds, the patient can view a richly detailed, multi-coloured rendering that can be viewed from any angle.
While iTero is helpful for assessing conventional crown, bridge, and implant cases, less well known is its integration with Invisalign® treatments. By using the iTero TimeLapse tool in tandem with the Invisalign Outcome Simulator, we can predict a potential outcome of an Invisalign treatment. With Invisalign technology combined with Dr. Huish’s expertise, suddenly a straighter and more comfortable bite can feel more within reach. While it’s no crystal ball, it’s very possibly the next best thing.
